I'm not exactly sure what the number 97 is supposed to represent, but I suspect that it's the lot number of the shop on which it hangs. This photo was captured in Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I guess that in Malaysia, 97 would just be a lot number -- much like, to quote Freud, a cigar would just be a cigar. However, if I had seen that number in Hong Kong, I'd have thought that it was a reference to 1997 -- the year that Hong Kong was handed back by the British to the People's Republic of China...
